How to Play Futoshiki
Futoshiki combines the Latin-square satisfaction of Sudoku with inequality mathematical logic. Your objective is to place digits 1 through N so that each digit appears once per row and column, and all inequality constraints are satisfied.
๐ข Latin Square
Every number from 1 to N appears exactly once in each row and column.
โ๏ธ Inequality Clues
Greater-than (>, โจ) and less-than (<, โง) symbols govern relationships between adjacent tiles.
โ๏ธ Pencil Marks
Jot candidate numbers down in empty cells to test logical eliminations safely.
Futoshiki Solving Techniques
- Inequality Chains: If you see a chain like
A < B < Cin a 5ร5 grid, A can only be 1 or 2, and C must be at least 3, 4, or 5. - Eliminating Extremes: The number 5 can never be on the smaller side of an inequality, and the number 1 can never be on the greater side.
- Cross-Referencing Rows and Columns: When a number is locked into a column, use it to eliminate candidate pencil marks in intersecting rows.
