How to Play Squareword
Squareword takes classic Wordle mechanics and expands them into two dimensions. Rather than guessing a single 5-letter word, you must reveal an entire 5×5 grid made of 5 words across and 5 words down.
🟩 Green Cells
When a letter matches that column or cell position, it locks onto the board permanently.
🟨 Row Margin Clues
Letters on the right margin indicate characters that belong in that specific horizontal row word.
🟨 Column Clues
Letters at the bottom margin belong in that specific vertical column word.
Squareword Solving Strategies
- Open With High-Vowel Words: Strong starters like
AUDIO,CRANE, orSTAREreveal vowel placements across all 5 rows and 5 columns simultaneously. - Cross-Reference Margin Letters: If a letter appears in Row 2 margin and Column 3 margin, it is likely the intersecting letter at cell (2, 3).
- Look for Shared Prefixes & Suffixes: Common English endings like
-ED,-ER,-IN, and-SToften appear along Row 4 or Column 4. - Use Elimination: Don't worry about solving a whole word in one try; eliminating 4 or 5 consonants narrows down multiple cells at once.
